Connect Codex public reset updates to your tools: HTTP API, RSS and MCP

Query Codex reset announcements through the public HTTP API, RSS or MCP while keeping original posts, timestamps and source health. Includes a read-only Python example using the standard library. No API Key is required; it does not report personal account quota.

Choose the simplest option for your task

Use RSS to read updates in a feed reader, the HTTP API to connect a script or dashboard, or remote MCP to query from an AI tool that supports MCP. These options read existing public announcements. They do not reset accounts or report your remaining personal quota.

HTTP: run a single read-only Python query

Save the following code as check_codex_reset.py, then run the following with Python 3.10 or later installed: python3 check_codex_reset.py. This uses only the Python standard library. No registration, API Key or Codex account credentials are required. It reads existing data once and does not set up polling or a subscription.

Python · Standard library · Read-only GET
import json
from datetime import datetime, timezone
from urllib.error import HTTPError, URLError
from urllib.request import urlopen

url = 'https://www.starshoreai.com/quota-orbit/api/v1/latest.json'
try:
    with urlopen(url, timeout=15) as response:
        data = json.load(response)
    if not isinstance(data, dict) or data.get('schema_version') != 1:
        raise ValueError('Unsupported response schema')
    event = data.get('event')
    if event is not None and not isinstance(event, dict):
        raise ValueError('Invalid event field')
except HTTPError as error:
    error.close()
    message = 'Wait at least 60 seconds before retrying' if error.code == 429 else 'Retry later'
    raise SystemExit(f'HTTP {error.code}: {message}; a failed request does not mean no reset occurred.')
except (URLError, OSError, ValueError) as error:
    raise SystemExit(f'Read failed: {error}; reset status cannot be inferred from this failure.')

checked_text = data.get('source_checked_at')
try:
    checked = datetime.fromisoformat(checked_text.replace('Z', '+00:00'))
    if checked.tzinfo is None:
        raise ValueError('Source check time has no timezone')
    age = (datetime.now(timezone.utc) - checked).total_seconds()
    fresh = data.get('source_healthy') is True and 0 <= age <= 30 * 60
except (AttributeError, TypeError, ValueError, OverflowError):
    fresh = False

print('Source checked at: ', checked_text or 'unknown')
print('Source is healthy and fresh' if fresh else 'Source is unhealthy, unknown or stale: historical reference only')
if event is None:
    print('No record returned; this does not mean no reset occurred.')
else:
    print('Public announcement:')
    print(json.dumps(event, ensure_ascii=False, indent=2))
    links = event.get('source_urls')
    for link in links if isinstance(links, list) else []:
        if isinstance(link, str) and link.startswith('https://'):
            print('Original post or supporting source: ', link)
print('This is public information, not a check of your personal account quota.')

The expected output includes the source check time, a health assessment, public event fields and the original post link. latest means the most recently updated event, which is not necessarily a completion announcement; event: null means no record was returned. It does not imply that no reset will occur today. completed only means that a public announcement reports completion.

If the source is unhealthy, its check time is unknown or it was last checked more than 30 minutes ago, treat the data as historical only. If a fetch fails, keep the old data and mark it as stale; do not convert the failure into “no reset.”

Add pagination and caching when you need more records

Start with the event list URL and follow the response's next until it is null. Resolve relative URLs against https://www.starshoreai.com/quota-orbit/ ; deduplicate by event_id ; update the existing record when revision changes. Custom query parameters are not currently supported.

Fetch no more often than once every 60 seconds and use caching. ETag, If-None-Match and 304 are supported. On a 429 response, wait at least 60 seconds and increase the delay between attempts. For the full field definitions and error handling, see the integration documentation. The one-time example above does not implement persistent caching or automatic retries.

RSS: add the feed URL to your reader

Add https://www.starshoreai.com/quota-orbit/rss.xml to a reader that supports RSS 2.0. Once loaded, the feed should show public event titles, timestamps, statuses and original post links.

The feed contains the latest 20 public events, not the full history. Revised entries keep the same identity. Whether your reader alerts you again depends on its refresh and notification settings. Receiving an old entry does not prove that the source is currently healthy.

MCP: keep original posts and timestamps in AI answers

In a client that supports Streamable HTTP, follow the client's instructions to add a remote MCP server at https://www.starshoreai.com/quota-orbit/mcp. No API Key is required.

After connecting, check that the latest_reset_signal and list_reset_signals read-only tools are available, then make a single query:

Find the most recently updated Codex public reset announcement. List its type, status, original post link and source check time. State clearly if the source is unhealthy or the data is stale. Do not infer that my personal quota has been restored.

The answer should include verifiable sources and data freshness, rather than simply state “reset completed.” If your client does not support this transport, follow the local MCP setup instructions in the documentation. Do not use an ordinary webpage URL as an MCP connection.

Quota Orbit is an independent tool, not an official OpenAI product. Its public website and integration interfaces do not read personal quota, guarantee quota restoration for an individual account or provide reset probabilities.
